The Kennel

We built our kennel in the summer of 2006.  It took approximately 2 months to complete, and we can not thank our friends Rob and Scott enough for all their hard work.  It really is a nice little area for the dogs to live.  The kennel opens into an outdoor fenced enclosure that is approximately 25x25 feet square.  The door is opened in the morning and closed at night for their safety.  The dogs are together at all times for companionship.  They are not separated unless there is a situation that we do not want a breeding to happen.  Otherwise, Opie enjoys looking over his girls at all times.  :)  The original plan of having individual stalls for each dog just didn't work out.  The stalls are handy storage areas now, but in 2008 we will do some renovating of the unneeded stalls and give the dogs some added indoor space.

Starting from scratch, the original basement area.

After the concrete was put down.

A fresh coat of paint.

Construction begins.

More construction.

The start of the stalls.

Travis helping out with painting.

A splash of color.

Kids help paint some lettering.

A little artwork to add some fun.

Closing the kennel off from the rest of the basement.

Interior wall.

Added the kennel name.

It's coming together.

A little staining to make it cozy.

Some trim work goes up.

Done!

Lilly testing the doggy door.

Quinn, Tess, Jack and Paige enjoy being together.

A look at the kennel a year later, the dogs prefer being together, so the stalls are used for other purposes. :)
